Trails of Discovery

Discovering a place of worship and its artworks, stained glass and social history, or exploring a historical site through the artefacts, art collections and the building itself can be inspiring and engaging. These interactive guides prompt children to explore the stories behind the animals and people represented in the church iconography, or those found through the rooms, art and furnishings of places of historical interest. 

Memory Trails help those older members of our communities with memory difficulties, explore churches and recall the scents and touch of objects from experiences in earlier years.

Walking Trails are designed to highlight places of interest in a particular area, village or town both for children and adults.

The Arts Society Alresford has designed the following Trails of Discovery:

In the summer of 2013 we launched our first Trail of Discovery for children aged 8-12 years, for St Mary’s Church in Avington, an unusual Georgian church with box pews, a triple decker pulpit and a working barrel organ. 

In 2020 we launched a Trail for St Mary's Church, Easton, famous for its memorials. Both churches are well worth a visit. They are full of interest for children and adults alike.

In 2022 we launched the Alresford Interactive Town Trail for primary aged children. This can be accessed using a QR code on a mobile device which can be found on a poster at the railway station, on the Alresford Town Council website or among the Council notices in the telephone box in West Street. The trail starts at the railway station and takes about an hour.
